Is It Necessary To Have a Check Valve Between The Kettle Inlet And Wort Pump?

What is check valve?

Check valve is a device that only allows the wort to flow in one direction.

They have two ports, one as an inlet for the wort and one as the output for the wort.

It is also called one way valves or non return valves.

How does the check valve works?

A check valve relies on a pressure differential between kettle tank and wort pump.

The pump will give check valve a higher pressure on the input side of the valve than the output side to open the valve.

What is the function of check valve?

The main function of a check valve is to prevent wort backflow to wort pump,

thus it can protect the pump from backflow damage and extend the pump service time.
